Project Nimbus its a “mech” game; a shooter and combat strategy game all rolled into one. From my initial impression, however, the game feels quite stiff. Despite being a huge fan of these games, I’m continually disappointed because developers routinely fail to study the prime points of the genre.evo_2013_13745282571633

Games like Zone of Enders got it right. Not only was it a top seller, but it also delivered what we wanted from a mech game. The vehicles operated smoothly and the AI was well-built. The sounds and voices were great, too. Although still in early access, Project Nimbus has yet to implement these constructs.e5a8485fb6acb4ceb151b41ebd41aab7_large

Despite these initial observations, the game offers interesting overall concepts…although I must question the main storyline. I know exactly where their inspiration came from. In campaign mode, their team is a part of an elite mercenary enforcement group called Mythril. Now take notes you fans out there; I got a point to make with this.

They work for Mythril and carry mechs on board a submarine which looks surprisingly similar to a popular anime. If you haven’t guessed it yet, I’m talking about Full Metal Panic!fmp_mithril051
I’m going out on a limb here and saying that the title of the organization (and also the submarine) may change upon full release, for fear of legal action by Funimation.

Barring those few things, Project Nimbus is promising and I’m looking forward to the finished product. I hope they continue to build a really amazing game and improve, as needed.
