First up is our disclaimer. We got this game because we wanted to review it, and as such all views in this article, our are own. No money has been exchanged for this review. Secondly, sense this is an early-access game our views on the game are subject to change regarding updates and future content until the game’s official release.
Heroes and Generals is a first-person online shooter taking place during the era of World War II. In it, you can play as different types of soldiers and like all first-person shooters you are shooting another group of people dressed as soldiers.
However, Heroes and Generals, take a more unique approach to the gameplay by giving the players a choice every few days of which side they want to be on in the fight to conquer all of Europe. This does present a problem though if your friend picks the opposing team then you won’t be able to play with them.
While making videos for our now-deceased YouTube channel this happened quite often and became kinda troublesome at times. The UI for the game looks like something you would normally see on a smartphone application which is kind of a downer and it has pay-to-win options where you can buy better equipment and design your soldier the way you want to.
You can slowly progress and unlock a lot of the features and soldiers by playing and getting kills. But it’s staggering in the amount of time needed to accomplish this task in our first look at the game we had some money to spend on it and where it did make the game easier to win. Notably, if you are a sniper and you love getting head-shots on people.
As an average player, it gets quite hard at times, Although this is an early access game so we expect things will change as time progresses. The gameplay is very similar to that of EA’s Battlefield 1942 series although the graphics for this game are quite a bit more improved.
Is the game worth looking into and playing, Yes despite the unfair advantages at times for paying players. The game has a great community and great staff behind it working on balancing it and making it fair for everyone. I know this from personal experience and I hope they continue to improve and work on their game until it’s perfect.
Best of all? It’s free to play so feel free to grab yourself a copy here.
It may have pay-to-win features but that is only because a free game has to make its money somehow.
