Haven Editorial: Captain America – The Representation of a Nation

Now, first and foremost I know I am probably going to get a lot of heat for this from a community of comic readers out there, but it’s my website so I will say what I want and you’ll are going to have to live with it.

Captain America one of the idealist poster boys for Marvel both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also in the comics. However in recent events he has taken somewhat of a dark turn after the cosmic cube rewrote his personal history turning him into an agent of Hydra and he’s slowly begun killing off all the heroes he fought alongside all these years.

But when you think of it, Marvel has always taken a very steadfast stand on politics. They have been using their comics to illustrate a point to the readers; at least from my perspective they have been.

Sam Wilson is currently the new Captain America fighting for truth and justice the same way the Captain America of old once did. However he is a liberal of sorts and that offends a lot of people, but the classic Captain America; Steven Rodgers represents the old America or in this case the current America.

Look around you; you see riots, brawling, racism, fascism, and hatred causing the country to literally tear itself apart at the seams. As a person who’s lived outside of the United States I can assure you that American’s are not taken to very pleasantly weather in be in Europe, the Middle East, England or other countries out there. We are looked down upon because of how we treat each other and when you think of it.

Captain America the person we all knew, loved, and trusted being the enemy is profoundly accurate because this is what America is. We let people live our lives without any choice of our own like the President being Donald Trump right now, who is trying to pass a bill that states that anyone with a variety of illnesses can no longer receive medical care such as me.

Yet, we have a person like Bernie Sanders who is standing up for us, against all odds and fighting for our true rights that we think we’ve had. Bernie Sanders is essentially the New Captain America with his political views not being in line with the main stream media.

We are at the cross-roads as a country, both in comics and in the way the nation is run and by who its run. We see the enemy and how its drawing closer, but a lot of people have trouble accepting this as a truth because of who it is. But Marvel gave it a face, a name, and a cause Captain America the original Captain America is a Hydra agent who thinks that controlling people is the best solution and we have to sacrifice our lives, and our freedoms for this cause.

No man can be controlled, just as no one can stop time from moving forward.

The only way this situation could become even more clear to people is if Donald Trump took Captain America’s shield and did a hand to hand fight with Bernie Sanders. It’s sad though, that the times continue to move on, and the people we thought we could trust turn out to be our greatest enemy.

Comics are a means of expression just like all other forms of art, but at the same time each art form is meant to help invoke a emotion, whether it be pity, remorse, anger, or despair. If anything the story that is unfolding right now before our eyes is real, just as the struggle to choose to keep on living a dream or face the reality of the situation outside our door.

America is considered the enemy, to a lot of people, and is viewed with such atrocity that a lot of people want to leave. Those who choose to stay, have to come to terms with the realization that, this is the path they choose, they choose to fight for healthcare, they choose to fight for their lives that the government could deem forfeit at a given moment.

But for those who want to leave, but can’t you will have my eternal sympathy.

Haven Editorial: Autism in Gaming

I know Autism awareness month has passed, but there is something I’ve wanted to say to our follows, our readers, our viewers, and anyone who happens to stumble across this lovely little place I own and manage.

I am Autistic, a lot of people don’t understand what it means and for the most part I am still learning about the quarks I have with it. It makes me obsessive over things, in this case gaming, I love gaming! Card games, board games, even digital games. I also obsess over schedules and plans it’s why I get annoyed a lot by my team.

But what I hate, and not just a simple loathe but a real hate, is how we are viewed by society. A lot of people consider us broken, that we aren’t special, or don’t fit in. Now don’t misunderstand me with this, there are people out there worse off than me.

I’m known as a high functioning autistic person. This means that I have a lot of the social issues an autistic person has, but I can still function as a human being for the most part. I generally don’t do things that make me uncomfortable and I like to follow a strict regime for pretty much everything I do. As I mentioned earlier I obsess about games.

People worry and say that games and Autism are bad, I don’t think so. I like games because of the structure it provides in a very unstructured world. Like the person in the Kotaku article said.

For some, games offer structure, for others escape. Still others find themselves inspired to dive to depths in games that would go unexplored by others.

I personally prefer Role-playing games because I can understand how the flow of conversations will go.  A lot of the time I misunderstand sarcasm because I have issues with not understanding certain social ques.

I am able to live my life though as a somewhat normal person, thanks to me identifying my issues and having a way to cope. But it’s no cake walk, because I live in a world where I am treated differently by a lot of people simply because of how my brain is. That bothers me, the worst part is I am clever and I understand this and why they are doing what they do.

Even now working at my job, people are keen to treat me a bit nicer simply because of it. I am only getting healthcare in the United States because of it. People have the audacity to judge people with Autism also because of their obsessions, putting us down, treating us differently, and it bothers me.

Hell, we got an entire month dedicated to helping people become more aware of Autism but all it does is reinforce the labeling we have been given by society. I never asked for it, I never wanted it. I just wanted to live my life as a average person and until I had to return to the United States I was doing just that.

Yes, Autism is a mental illness and there are people less fortunate than I am with it, severe cases that need constant help and support. But at the same time, this is not something I wanted. I didn’t want to be born this way; I didn’t want the labeling that came along with it. I’ve been fortunate to avoid most of the worse parts of the issues that come along with it, the bullying for example.  I got lucky because I was home-schooled after a while.

I guess what I am trying to say here, and avoiding the point is. I game because it’s my way of coping; it’s my way of understanding and helping people understand. Gamers-Haven is a place I created so people from all walks of life, religion, and genders. So that they can be welcomed with open arms including people who are Autistic like myself. I know not everyone out there is bad; I genuinely know and understand that my views are a tad bit bias because of my experiences and understanding towards the situations at hand. But others like me, none of us wanted what life dealt us. It’s why I avoid a lot of social situations, it’s why I game, It’s why I genuinely keep people out of my life. Because society has made Autism a defining factor for people who cannot show the world what they are capable of because that label is all they see.

The only reason I even write this, is so everyone can see. I may be an Autistic person, but I am also a person who has created a marvelous little website among the few friends I have to achieve something we all strive and yearn for.

A world where everyone can be accepted for who they are and not viewed with labels society places upon us.

Haven Editorial: Two arrested at Pokemon World Tournament

pokemonworldTwo men were arrested at the Pokemon World Championships in Boston, USA following a tip off from security staff.

The two men who were due to compete in the finals were eighteen year old Kevin Norton and twenty seven year old James Stumbo.631x__medium They drove from Iowa to participate in the event but have since been arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as other firearms the Boston Police have stated.

Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald, Commander of the Boston Police district’s Bureau of intelligence and analysis, praised the Pokemon staff for their commitment to the safety of the players at the event.

He went on to describe the arrested pair and their weapons as a very real threat.

“The BPD detectives and collaborating agencies did a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy,”

He said and earlier this week James Stumbo had posted a picture of his car with two guns on the boot on a Facebook post at the start of the week. 1399733205780156819

The championships, which took place at the weekend were invitation only and usually brings in roughly four hundred thousand entries each year according to the Pokemon Company.

The best players in the TCG and handheld divisions from more than thirty different countries take part in the event competing for top prizes of scholarship money, trophies and merchandise.

Personally I am happy that everyone is okay, being a old Pokemon player I have had to deal with bullies and trouble that has come along before but. Seeing as how it was actual players that wanted to start trouble this time it sits very unsettling for me.

Let us come to terms with this we got to thank Pokemon Company for keeping everyone safe and understanding that people like this will continue to come in and try to ruin things and all we can do is hope and pray as well as prepare that none of which we fear will come to pass in other games such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic the Gathering and event big venue gatherings not to mention Pokemon again..

Its like if Comic-Con was attacked by gunman but for Pokemon players. To help give everyone a solid idea of just how bad it could be. Hopefully though other companies like Konami, and Wizards will take heed to how Pokemon Company handled this situation and have a plan for it as well as Comic Con.

As for the players in question who would go out and do something like this, I feel a great pity for them. They had the potential to actually participate in this but choose to take the latter path and almost ruined the fun for everyone. I hope those two understand that is not how you handle any situation at all. A peaceable solution is the best solution and those who aim to hurt others in the end will only hurt themselves…
