Haven Review: Stan Lee Box #1

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, that being life I’ve not had the chance to take the time and review. The Stan Lee Box! I have been excited for months about this, literal months, and although it’s a older box that does not take away from the excitement I’ve had about being able to open this up and finally take a peak!

So let’s get started shall we?

First up are the two really amazing figures that came in this box the MK 1 of the fire Iron Man armor that Tony Stark made while he was captive.

This lovely little piece is die cast which means its metal, a literal Iron Man armor that is actual metal! I love it, and besides being a beautiful figure to look at and admire it also makes a great paper weight due to its weight! So not only a collectible but also a beautiful desk ornament also!

But let’s not forget the other figure this box came with, and as you all have guessed from past experiences I am a fan of Spider-Man! So what makes me happy, is having my own little web slinger hanging around taking photos of things on my desk and everything and brightening my room with some color! I love not only the design of the figure itself but also the fact that I got two awesome figures both in one single box!

We also got a How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way!  Where it teaches the step by step guide on how to draw your very own comics! So for all those aspiring artists out there who want to start their own comics this alone is already super beneficial to you!  Having clear instructions to be able to help you pursue your dream of making your own comic whether it be a Super Hero comic or a romance comic it’s all up to you!

The box also comes with Raw Hide Kid from the Marvel Masterworks a good piece for those of you out there who love the comics that aren’t focused around everyone’s favorite web-slinger or man of Iron. But speaking of Marvel Master Works, let’s not forget the limited edition variant covers from Monsters Unleashed drawn by Marvel artists and signed!

So not only do you get the comic with it, with protective casing and hard back but you get the drawn versions of it as well! It’s a amazing and beautiful piece for all collectors and comic enthusiast’s alike, I personally won’t be opening these. They are simply satisfying for me to look at and enjoy.

Last but not least, do we have a T-shirt with the big man’s face on it, but we also got Excelsior! The wood shavings that inspired Stan Lee for his catch phrase, and with it comes a info card that explains where the phrase originated and what inspired him to start using it as his catch phrase.

In conclusion the Stan Lee box is completely worth it and I absolutely love it, maybe someday we’ll do a give-away for one, but for now we will enjoy this box and all its contents!

Haven Editorial: Captain America – The Representation of a Nation

Now, first and foremost I know I am probably going to get a lot of heat for this from a community of comic readers out there, but it’s my website so I will say what I want and you’ll are going to have to live with it.

Captain America one of the idealist poster boys for Marvel both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also in the comics. However in recent events he has taken somewhat of a dark turn after the cosmic cube rewrote his personal history turning him into an agent of Hydra and he’s slowly begun killing off all the heroes he fought alongside all these years.

But when you think of it, Marvel has always taken a very steadfast stand on politics. They have been using their comics to illustrate a point to the readers; at least from my perspective they have been.

Sam Wilson is currently the new Captain America fighting for truth and justice the same way the Captain America of old once did. However he is a liberal of sorts and that offends a lot of people, but the classic Captain America; Steven Rodgers represents the old America or in this case the current America.

Look around you; you see riots, brawling, racism, fascism, and hatred causing the country to literally tear itself apart at the seams. As a person who’s lived outside of the United States I can assure you that American’s are not taken to very pleasantly weather in be in Europe, the Middle East, England or other countries out there. We are looked down upon because of how we treat each other and when you think of it.

Captain America the person we all knew, loved, and trusted being the enemy is profoundly accurate because this is what America is. We let people live our lives without any choice of our own like the President being Donald Trump right now, who is trying to pass a bill that states that anyone with a variety of illnesses can no longer receive medical care such as me.

Yet, we have a person like Bernie Sanders who is standing up for us, against all odds and fighting for our true rights that we think we’ve had. Bernie Sanders is essentially the New Captain America with his political views not being in line with the main stream media.

We are at the cross-roads as a country, both in comics and in the way the nation is run and by who its run. We see the enemy and how its drawing closer, but a lot of people have trouble accepting this as a truth because of who it is. But Marvel gave it a face, a name, and a cause Captain America the original Captain America is a Hydra agent who thinks that controlling people is the best solution and we have to sacrifice our lives, and our freedoms for this cause.

No man can be controlled, just as no one can stop time from moving forward.

The only way this situation could become even more clear to people is if Donald Trump took Captain America’s shield and did a hand to hand fight with Bernie Sanders. It’s sad though, that the times continue to move on, and the people we thought we could trust turn out to be our greatest enemy.

Comics are a means of expression just like all other forms of art, but at the same time each art form is meant to help invoke a emotion, whether it be pity, remorse, anger, or despair. If anything the story that is unfolding right now before our eyes is real, just as the struggle to choose to keep on living a dream or face the reality of the situation outside our door.

America is considered the enemy, to a lot of people, and is viewed with such atrocity that a lot of people want to leave. Those who choose to stay, have to come to terms with the realization that, this is the path they choose, they choose to fight for healthcare, they choose to fight for their lives that the government could deem forfeit at a given moment.

But for those who want to leave, but can’t you will have my eternal sympathy.

Haven Review: Geek Fuel Monthly Box

So I finally got to try a subscription box from Geek Fuel, and jumping right into it I must say it was nicely packed. I don’t have photos because I got selfish and decided to just tear into the box like an angry child with wrapping paper.

One of the things I noticed about the box is the cost, which I found a bit low. But when I opened it I wasn’t disappointed by what I found. Inside we had a lovely Steam game, a Batman vs. Superman T-shirt (XL, my size too!), A Legend of Zelda: Link poster that’s exclusive to Geek Fuel and a Funko vinyl doll which made me want to shout “Wonder Woman!” like in the old TV shows. But you probably haven’t seen those.015-525x350

I also got the Amazing Fantastic Incredible, memoirs of Stan Lee, which surprisingly enough is spot on for this box. They also included the Geek Fuel magazine which emphasizes things they like to talk about, including console gaming. Truth be told, I didn’t really pay that much mind; I got an entire box full of wonderful geeky things which will keep me busy for quite a few hours. By quite a few hours, I mean I’m just going to be reading the Stan Lee memoirs for a really long time. The book is hard cover with a nice paper-back design that’s very well done.¨

If you want to watch the opening of the Geek Fuel box, the link will be in the description below. But now is the part where I say “Hey if you want, you too can order a box and they have various subscription fees for what you want.” You can buy a box for $17.90 (USD), but that’s only for a month. If you decide to order for a year, you can get it for $14.90. I don’t know why they’re priced like that; I find it pretty stupid.DSC_0015

So you can get more things for less if you purchase an entire year’s worth…assuming you have the money and want to order a nice box of geeky things. I absolutely love my box, but honestly when we were ordering it we had a few issues. These initially prevented us from getting it until a polite staff member patiently helped us out.

Not many companies we’ve had the pleasure of working with are kind enough to actually take the time to deal with people in a polite way. So for me that was a bonus. It shows me that they actually go out of their way to help people who are interested in their product without shrugging them off. This was a definite selling point.

But anyway, if you’re interested in picking up a subscription box from Geek Fuel you can visit their website here. Or if you’d be so kind, you can click this link here and use our referral so we can get more boxes! What can I say? I really do love geeky things!
