Haven Editorial: Hello Neigbour

Hello Neighbor is showing some real progress and is all ready a quite fantastic game, if a bit unfinished, being a beta and all. That does not retract from the fun factor. From what little evidence I can gather it takes place in Russia, or at least somewhere like that. Only a lot more twisted, with jagged angles. Though that is purely an aesthetic design choice. Which works in the games favor, all to often indie games fall into the trap of attempting to make the game look real, dark and gritty. Almost all of them fail. There is only so many games with badly cobbled together 3d assets and survival elements I can take. Ranting aside. Hello Neighbor is a very fun game about hide and seek of a fashion. The person across the road has built himself a massive mansion, one that breaks several zoning laws and gravity as well.

I was rudely awoken room my slumber by an ear shattering scream from across the street. Where I could spot the broad shouldered neighbor grunting in exertion as he fell onto the floor. Eventually the sound stopped. Naturally my sense of wonder and justice got the better of mw. Which is why I have decided to sneak into his house without being caught.

Hello Neighbor is fun and at times quite adrenaline pumping. Where one of the main selling points is how the man keep adapting his defenses according to player transgression. Sneak in the front door and he will place a bear trap there next time. Place objects in the way and he will just brush them aside or jump over them. Which sometimes work and other times causes things to crash. Its a beta after all. Eventually all of those pesky bugs will be ironed out. I have faith in the developers skill to pull this of. Especially since they quite recently patched the game. Now there are several other minor complaints I do have about the game though. That is the lack of settings, such a borderless windowed and that the controls can be a bit crap. Hold down E to pick up an item, press the right mouse key to drop item, some items can be used with the left mouse button. In all honesty I would suggest having to press E once to interact. Since one of the first challenges I had after grabbing the crowbar from the trunk of my car, was to figure out how remove the planks blocking the door. Apparently I had to aim at the nails, then click in order to remove them. Luckily they did include a tutorial, which also work as the intro.

First impressions are important and Lanze Games deliver a quite fantastic kickstarter, highlighting their quite interesting game indeed.

I’m a sucker for rogue games, despite the concept being built upon luck and dying way too much. The concept is simple and easy to grasp. The world have set places and locations, while the rest is randomly generated within the world. A fully narrative experience is also promised by Pixel Princess and that is sweet. Most such games have virtually no story what so ever, aside from some random journals and the setting itself. Then again half the fun is the story that unfolds dynamically as you play.

Music is also key to any good game and I’m quite sure they have a skilled music maker on their team. The soundtrack can be bought and there is even a retro inspired version too boot. I just hope they have flack. It has everything to do with the quality. I just have a different taste. Never the less, from what I can see within the trailer and the information provided by the developer. The framework is already there and looks fun. Great many indie developers these days have a bad habit of underselling their product or doing a bad half baked effort at making a good game. If anything consider Pixel princess a lesson in how to show, tell and sell.

The art direction is positively lovely and full of charm. It’s done in that cutesy chibi style and kept consistent. If their concept art is anything to go by, they know exactly what they are doing by embracing pixels and nice animations. I also adore their silly promotion comics.

The game is already Greenlit, however it needs a little bit more support in order to deliver the best possible experience. Such as coop. Something I value greatly in any game I run across. There is also a slew of rewards for those whom are willing to back Pixel Princess.

«War, war never changes» The world went nuclear ,both     technologically and figuratively. Even rusty car wrecks produce a mushroom cloud. America and china fought a war over resources, which resulted in a nuclear apocalypse. Some humans took shelter in hidden underground vaults, to shelter themselves from the nuclear rain. Some m.ore success full than others. So far all the protagonist have emerged from such a vault, Fallout 4 is no different. If you look away from the hero being cryofrozen at the start, only to be woken up 200 years later. Only to witness the protagonists spouse getting gunned down, as doctors steal the baby.

Fallout 4 is a first person shooter, within and open sandbox, with a level up mechanic. Where body parts can be targeted in slow motion, to brutal effect. But I assume you already knew that. Which means that I’ll prattle on about some new features instead. Guns no longer have durability and that is frigging sweet.

Enemies have more and better animations, the ghouls are a true pain to deal with, as they lunge for my face. There are also an abundance of high level boss monsters that at least succeeded in spilling my guts more than once.

Then there is the abundance of power armor upgrades, too bat the thing run on a limited power source, which has to be bought or looted. Apparently there exist one with a jet pack as well. Not to mention the quite fun and engaging settlement building. The best part about it is the ability to build an artillery and bomb things to heck and back. Other than that the building mechanic is a secondary thing, which I don’t spend too much time on.

Since it hardly affects the story much. But it can provide some fun bonuses.The Fallout 4 protagonist now has voiced dialogues, with a very crummy dialogue tree, which is less flexible than ever before.Each level up gave me one point, I can put in an attribute or use in one of the lovely perks.I also greatly enjoy the unique weapon modifiers and the new unique weapons, such as being able to freeze enemies.

On several occasion the game crashed on me, stability has always been an issue, a fan patch fixed some of it. When mods are activated the Steam achievements gets disabled, however that’s a small price to pay in order to get a portal gun, nude bodies and fancy effects to enhance the environment. Certain quest NPC still have the uncanny ability to engage in conversation with me, despite being hidden. It’s a really unfortunate trigger system. Though One of my biggest pet peeves must be the inability to see properly under water and a serious lack of things beneath the surface.

However it is a very nice looking game, which is very fun and extremely addictive. Where the sound track is fairly decent, with a fairly decent in-game radio. As for the plot, it’s quite fun, but it feels like it’s missing something. It’s no where near the quality of New Vegas, but it makes up for it with the rule of, stunning scenery and locations.
