Haven Reviews: hellblade, senua’s sacrifice

Hellblade us a mentally challenging trudge trough Hel, the underworld of Norse vikings. It is a miserable place of malcontent. Senua is on a brutal trek into the belly of the beast, with a slew of voices in her head. The story is well executed with a very earnest story that is not for the week of mind, or those who have mental issues. Even if the end is truly well urn. The scenery is stunningly beautiful, with some of the most moody and imaginative scenery in    yet to see. As someone from a viking land up north, whom have a more than passing familiarity to Norse mythology. Hellblade does a simply wonderful job at imagining nordic inspired locations. Though I truly miss a decent fjord. Meanwhile the story has a superb narrative and narration, where the world is littered with Norse mythology snippets. That being said Hellblade is a self contained story where everything you can do is there from the start. Combat is surprisingly simple and very efficient. However the combat does fall into meat wall territory, unless set to easy. Heavy attacks are combined with light ones, timed blocking, lenient dodging and a focus mechanic that slows everything down for a short period of time. Meanwhile the other part of the game is puzzles and harrowing situations, followed by long stretches of simple puzzle solving. Essentially a door is blocked by runes, which the shape has to be found, seen and focused on. Such as a distinct shadow on the wall after lighting a torch, or lining up some specific scenery. There are also a fair share of illusions and perspective tricks in place as well.  Which is a very interesting and fun way to do puzzle solving. Instead of scrounging for keys and banging things together until it magically works.  A feature I truly enjoy is the fantastically unobtrusive hud. The music is also fantastic, moody and something I need to look up later. That being said I ran across several crashes and some minor bugs. Such as walking backwards when crawling through the engulfing darkness. All in all a great game that took me eight hours to complete. Where it is impossible to miss the achievements. That being said, the save file will not be affected by dying a lot. Then again I died a grand total of five times. This is not a game for children and the feeble minded our those easily bored by long stretches of fumbling about.

Haven Reviwes: Fortnite Early Acess

Fortnite is a fun, fast and very addictive game, From green rabbits with guns, to grumpy muscle men cutting their way out of a city eating worm. Epic games knows how to deliver a quality experience. 3rd person action, unique abilities, looting, crafting, a plot, zombies, exploration, base building, a skill three, traps and tower defense. Topped of by the ability to play with 3 other people in glorious cooperation. If you got through all of that you’re probably a tad confused. Fortnite is one of those games that combine many great game play elements into one polished and mostly bug free package. The graphics are colorful, with a cartoon like art direction and over exaggerated features. Which makes for an exceedingly nice combination. The music is fairly a fairly okay fare, with several dynamic tunes, depending on the action. They’re there and they sound okay, but ultimately they are very forgettable. For some reason Fortnite is very found of whooping the butt of various loot pinata llamas. Which talks a lot and is brutally decapitated in a shower of candy and schematics.  The most efficient and best way to unlock new heroes and weapons that can bu build during the missions. Unfortunately this is quite much luck based. Normally I loathe zombies, as they are the most bland, rotten and boring enemy imaginable aside from annoying bats. However this game fixes that by throwing a lot of variation and special enemies that will rip you a new orifice. Plus that they gain various nasty elements later on. That being said, the game does contain a quite bit of grinding. Which will drag out the game a lot, so that is something to keep in mind. It is a time sink, a very addictive time sink. That being said many missions brings a lot of new elements and modifiers to keep things fresh.

Combined with a randomly generated terrain. As I mentioned earlier tower defense is an important aspect of Fortnite. Most maps have an objective to defend, other wise the relentless horde will destroy it. That’s why manufactured traps and walls can be built all over the place to stop the scourge from getting through too fast. Buildings can be built anywhere as long as one have enough materials. Not to mention the storm shield, which is the main base of operation, that can be built up any way you like. An arena that has to be defended at least 10 times during the story mode. Which is another nice thing about the game, it has a fully voiced story mode with quirky characters and an over enthusiastic robot. In conclusion a good game, with many nice qualities, with quite a bit of grinding. The most negative aspect of the game thus far is that most ability powers are way too weak or short lived.

Haven Editorial: No Man’s sky Revisited

No Man’s Sky clearly had a good thing going for it and the winds at their back, when it came to their vision. But as we all know by now, they failed to deliver, which was quite unfortunate indeed. Despite a lot of major setbacks, they do seem to come around and actually have decided to add more content. The only problem is that the content in question provided by No Man’s Sky is quite crap and bare bones. The base building is boring and adds virtually notching, aside from a way to return to the place you built it. Not only can it only be built on a very small area, it also has very few things that can be built and a hard limit to the number of pieces. I made a very informative and insightful video about it. You can have the honor of watching me stack a ton of round modules on top of each other and spam banners. Which brings me to the not some impressive update they have decided to announce. An all terrain vehicle. Which sounds more impressive than it is. Especially when you consider the limitation on the space craft while in orbit.

However fans and the mod community is the most fantastic lot of them all. They spend countless hours tinkering and refining the game code. Adding things the developers wish they would think of. I’ve tested several mods and the work wonders.
The first one mutes the in-game voices and sounds. Which removes the need for that ear grater computer voice Hello Games out in there. The blissful silence reveals a sever lack of any ambiance. In other words it solves one problem by giving me a poor sound picture instead.

Another fantastic mod removes all limitations on flying while in No Man’s Sky orbit. Low flight always me to crash, burn and fly underwater while doing loops and barrel rolls. Hovering in place is also included. Finally I can squeeze my craft into any planetary orifice I can think of. There are also a bucket load of mods that add other interesting things, such as the chance of finding a particular type of planet. The number of animals. Slight visual overhauls and many, many fantastic shaders. Infinite resources. Not to mention more insane terrain or removal of all terrain. Keep in mind, none of these fantastic mods I’m pushing here solves the god awful loading screen and piss poor pc performance.
