Tech Review: Facerig

review-facerigFacerig is a very unusual program where you can actually have a lot of fun. So much fun in fact, That I have literally spent a few hours alone on it, just talking to myself and learning the software so I can make some funny videos later.

However, I’ve found a few notable problems with the software and after a quick Google search I’ve learned that they are either still working on fixing them, or that the developers have stopped caring about fixing them.20131215151557-FaceRig_alpha-stage_03_-_Copy

When I first tried recording with the software, I was met with a loud hissing and static noise that made it impossible to hear my own voice. The problem was that the software doesn’t auto-detect your microphone/headset, rather it sets its own default (even if it’s disabled). This was odd, but regardless I set it to my headset and moved on. But even after doing that, recording with FRAPS was also pointless because it still detected the audio input according to the earlier settings.

But after trying LoiLo I was finally able to clear up the audio for recording and it was pretty great. I really enjoyed it overall, however after restarting the program I found out that the software does not save all of your settings and you must manually reset your microphone and headset each and every time you want to use the software.FaceRig Games

Now this is what I meant by the developers not fixing the issue yet after a quick Google search I learned that this has been a persistent problem for the software and even after a year you think they would fix it but they haven’t so far.

But let us move on to the actual software, it does have a lot of variation and once you do get your webcam working and microphone working for lipsync the animations you can do are incredible, however this all goes without saying that you got to make sure its all probably being detected by the software each and every time you use it.

Their exporting feature also for video and audio is a little disappointing which is the reason why I am relying heavily on using Loilo or FRAPS for the software to get better results, they even have a green screen feature for the software which is amazing for editing the images into other videos but if you are using AVS or other software it won’t be as good as you would hope.maxresdefault

All in all by its own right the software is remarkably fun and I have literally killed a bunch of time on it and the bugs I have encountered although widely known has not stopped people such as myself and others from using it.

I recommend you pick up the software and give it a try sometime it’s really amazing.

Haven Editorial: League of Legends gets Fingered.

Now I am glad the title got your attention. But on the last day of the World Championship group stage the European professional player Fabian Febiven said in a interview that he expected the American team Cloud9 to lose their match that was about to begin.

The star player of Cloud9 Hai Du Lam responded by flipping him off. However this was captured on camera and because of it the player is now being fined €500 or roughly $556 for the American players out there.

I believe the phrase we are looking for at this point is “Get Rekted.” Although the player responds to these accusations by saying he did not mean it in Malice but in good fun!”
However after Riots investigation they concluded he did indeed break their rules and for that he has to pay the fine.

Riot’s ruling said that Hai making an “obscene gesture towards an opponent while on stage during the final day of Group Stages for the 2015 World Championship” violated section 9.1.3 of the World Championship ruleset, “Disruptive Behavior / Insults.” Here’s the text lifted from the Worlds ruleset:

A Team Member may not take any action or perform any gesture directed at an opposing Team Member, or incite any other individual(s) to do the same, which is insulting, mocking, disruptive, or antagonistic.

A lot of people in the league of legends community have responded with the casual jokes and even the founder of Cloud9 responded by saying.

Like many groups out there its safe to say that a lot of professional players will be watching what they do from now on. If you want to watch the bird in action there is a video link below and also a picture attached so you can see it if you miss it.

Now my personal opinion on this is that Professional players should always be setting a example. Even if you did mean it in a way that was not malicious there are people who look up to you and respect you and try to imitate what you do. I played Yu-Gi-Oh! Pro like for years (mind you best I ever did was top thirty six.) But the people I played against knew what sportsmanship was and they respected each other when they played we all knew what we were doing and why we were playing and we all had our own opinions regarding matters.
1485440907756016457Even the judges for the events made it so even new players knew what they were getting into and how to act and treat a person. While we gamed not only did we get to learn about the opponents we were facing but also the respect needed when you played and in a lot of E-sports you just don’t see that respect that players should have.

I hope that someday the E-sports arena changed and that players can learn to respect one another and that there are people who look up to you in regards to matters like this but that’s just my opinion to each his own.

Haven Editorial: Two arrested at Pokemon World Tournament

pokemonworldTwo men were arrested at the Pokemon World Championships in Boston, USA following a tip off from security staff.

The two men who were due to compete in the finals were eighteen year old Kevin Norton and twenty seven year old James Stumbo.631x__medium They drove from Iowa to participate in the event but have since been arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as other firearms the Boston Police have stated.

Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald, Commander of the Boston Police district’s Bureau of intelligence and analysis, praised the Pokemon staff for their commitment to the safety of the players at the event.

He went on to describe the arrested pair and their weapons as a very real threat.

“The BPD detectives and collaborating agencies did a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy,”

He said and earlier this week James Stumbo had posted a picture of his car with two guns on the boot on a Facebook post at the start of the week. 1399733205780156819

The championships, which took place at the weekend were invitation only and usually brings in roughly four hundred thousand entries each year according to the Pokemon Company.

The best players in the TCG and handheld divisions from more than thirty different countries take part in the event competing for top prizes of scholarship money, trophies and merchandise.

Personally I am happy that everyone is okay, being a old Pokemon player I have had to deal with bullies and trouble that has come along before but. Seeing as how it was actual players that wanted to start trouble this time it sits very unsettling for me.

Let us come to terms with this we got to thank Pokemon Company for keeping everyone safe and understanding that people like this will continue to come in and try to ruin things and all we can do is hope and pray as well as prepare that none of which we fear will come to pass in other games such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic the Gathering and event big venue gatherings not to mention Pokemon again..

Its like if Comic-Con was attacked by gunman but for Pokemon players. To help give everyone a solid idea of just how bad it could be. Hopefully though other companies like Konami, and Wizards will take heed to how Pokemon Company handled this situation and have a plan for it as well as Comic Con.

As for the players in question who would go out and do something like this, I feel a great pity for them. They had the potential to actually participate in this but choose to take the latter path and almost ruined the fun for everyone. I hope those two understand that is not how you handle any situation at all. A peaceable solution is the best solution and those who aim to hurt others in the end will only hurt themselves…
