Nerd Editorial: Viola Davis-How to get away with Suicide

With the casting of Viola Davis in the new Suicide Squad movie, all I can say is there aren’t many other people I personally could consider for the role of Amanda Waller. Nicknamed “the Wall”, she is a former congressional aide and government agent often placed in charge of the Suicide Squad, a semi-secret government-run group of former supervillains working in return for amnesty. She later served as Secretary of Metahuman Affairs under President Lex Luthor, before being arrested in the wake of Luthor’s public fall from grace.

Amanda_Waller_0002Having several media incarnations, including Smallville, Arrow, Justice League Unlimited on televsion and the Green Lantern movie from 2011, I’m interested to see what the former Prosecutor from Law and Order Viola Davis can bring to the role. Viola Davis has shown not just in the Law and Order franchise that she has the chops to play an amazing Amanda Waller, but she’s also got that sense of “I’m going to rip your shit out of your dickhole if you fuck with me” essence that I think Amanda Waller should have. She’s also been reported as a DC comic fangirl, which tells me as a comic fan that she knows the kind of attitude to bring to Wallers character. Read more about her being a fangirl here (

Suicide Squad is due for release August 5th, 2016.

Haven Review: Total War Attila

webbyPlaying Total War is like leasing a car.  You drive it for a while, then opt for a new model with fancier lines and a bit more power.  Having watched the progression of the Total War series however, I can tell you that the old classics still hold value.

Attila is the latest to clock in, but what does he carry in tow?  Beautiful graphics, engaging dialog and music, and a tremendous multiplayer faction system, for sure.  But if you’re expecting to simply hop into the tutorial and begin a campaign, you may want to take it slow.  The game is difficult; not only during actual gameplay, but even in the controls and key-binding options!

Campaigns progress in two phases:

First, there is a tactical phase, where you position troops on a battlefield, always mindful of trees, terrain, buildings and roads.  Based on their battle function, your troops are divided into small regiments.  The familiar rock/paper/scissors formula is built into your units, so smart placement is paramount.  Next, there is a strategic phase, where you spend resources earned in battle so as to upgrade your troops, repair buildings and hire special leaders and mercenaries to aid you in future combat.

Overall, Attila is both a beauty and a beast, kind of like a new Ferrari.  If you have access to early Total War clunker titles, you may find them useful in getting your learner’s permit before taking on this latest model.

Nerd Editorial: A Call to Cosplay!

Hey everyone remember that May first globally is free comic book day.
But there are those less fortunate then ourselves stuck in beds at hospitals who cannot join us and get free comics.
When I first moved to Norway I wanted to show people that we can make a difference
by being who we are which generally is geeks, nerds, and Otaku’s but anyone can make a difference anywhere. I recommend contacting your local comic book store and speaking with the owner.

Get a group together and go help make a difference in the world. You don’t need Robert Downey Jr, dressing up as Iron man when your friends and yourself can make a entire suit out of cardboard and cheer a kid up. You don’t need Chris Pratt to be Starlord when your sewing skills can suffice.
Get your friends together get your cosplays on and go visit your local childrens hospital share the joy and the excitement you feel every day being who you are. An use it to brighten up a sick persons day. Everyone can make a difference if you believe you can and it only takes one person to make a difference.
